Appendance tackles billion-dollar professional writing problem with new online course

Better Business Writing teaches effective business writing skills to meet needs of rising remote workforce after numerous requests from HR pros.

FORT COLLINS, Colo., — (May 12, 2020) — While the total amount varies, experts agree that poor writing costs American businesses billions of dollars every year. To combat that high cost, Appendance, a company providing consulting in business writing to organizations, corporations and individuals looking to improve their written communication, today announced the launch of Better Business Writing.

“Written communication has always been at the center of business. Now that companies and individuals are choosing to continue to work remotely, the need to write effectively is more imperative than ever — that’s why we created and are launching Better Business Writing,” said Jenny Morse, Ph.D., Appendance founder and president. “What really sets Better Business Writing apart from our competition is the live one-on-one coaching aspect we’ve combined with our daily course work. By incorporating expert feedback from dedicated coaches, the course helps attendees consider the strategies they employ, where any gaps exist and what they can do to keep improving.”

Better Business Writing is a six-week online course that kicks off on June 8 and teaches participants habits for effective communication, questions to ask during the planning stage, areas to focus on when drafting, strategies to use when revising and sentence-level techniques for clear and concise writing. Through curriculum and coaching covering grammar, habit training, tone and email, the course aims to teach strategies to make professional writing more effective, increasingly credible and better able to connect with various audiences. Dedicated coaches provide feedback on assignments and meet with participants for one hour each week, reviewing lessons, answering questions and discussing how to incorporate the skills and strategies into daily life.

Established in 2015, Appendance (a-PEN-dance) currently serves clientele, including Employers CouncilNational Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)CoBank and Hunter Douglas, through on-site and online live courses. Appendance’s primary offerings include on-site instruction and synchronous online instruction, as well as monthly webinars and specially hosted online events. Recently tapped by Adobe, companies using Appendance praise the impact of Morse’s training methods.

“Dr. Morse made the class fun and entertaining so you hardly realized you were learning,” said Lynn Monfette, quality and compliance assistant at Rocky Mountain Health Care Services.

The new online course was created in response to requests from human resource officers looking for ongoing, in-depth training for employees, as well as small business owners looking to increase their skill and comfort with written communications. The course’s unique combination of online content (video, audio, text materials) with small group coaching sessions will maximize the impact of the learning environment.

Appendance is a recent winner of the PitchNo.CO competition held during Fort Collins Startup Week.
